hba1c

I am wondering why i cannot get a up to date hba1c result,3 days ago i went to my gp for routine tests/checks.,had blooods taken including hba1c,got a text message telling me my levels were 78 from 105 well done etc etc...I was aware of these results on april 10th when i went for pre ams check at the local hospital.why not just tell me there has not been a A1c test done instead of giving me the old result..if the test had been done it would have started at 78 and then less or more.Are the clinicians involved told not to repeat hba1c test within a certain time period..i am awaiting surgery and as soon as a1c is below 69 i can proceed.why the constant delays in obtaining a accurate a1c test.Thanks for letting me ramble.

I did have a bit of a moan at the sister at the pre ams check,she informed me that a further request for a a1c would not be entertained if in their opinion the time span between requests was not adequate.No figures were given,apart from the standard 12 weeks wait.does anyone know if there is a set time before a further A1c test will be entertained.. its really pi....g me off,as i need spinal surgery for pain relief.thanks

Since you need an HbA1C below 69 for your surgery (and I presume your GP knows that). Then I would expect them to have done an HbA1C again even though it has been less than 2 months since the last. Tests are not usually done less than around 3 months apart since the result is an average over the lifespan of your red blood cells - which are replaced about every 3 months.

If I want/need a particular blood test done, I always ask the surgery if they can include it on the list and give my reason. I feel that I have a responsibility for my health, even more than my GP does when it comes to diabetes because I feel I know more about my diabetes than they do.

I had bloods taken last thursday,came back on friday via text with the same result i had on april 10th.So i presume the A1c test has not been done,without any explanation or reason.
