Hi advice please, thinking that maybe i was diabetic i have been taking blood test for the last 10 days ,my daughter was type 1 for also 30years so knew some symptons, fasting tests 6.9 to 7.2 evening tests 7.0 to 9.0 went to drs and explained how i felt she sent me to hospital for hba1c yesterday i thought the test was 2 blood tests one before a glucose drink then another 2 hours later, i did look on the form and it said hba1c plus 2 other tests bone and another one so 3 lots of blood were sent off, i did ask if i was to have a drink and come back they said no ??? is that right please advice as im confused , thanks Sue.
 
They don't always diagnose diabetes with a Glucose Tollerance Test (GTT) which is the one you were talking about. I've never had one as a Type 2, only 27, 25 and 20 years ago when I was pregnant with my three children and had borderline gestational diabetes.

The more common current way of diagnosing diabetes is with a HbA1c test which measures how much glucose is stuck to your red blood cells over the last three months (the results are more swayed by the last month though). The only problem with this test is if you are anaemic and have less red blood cells and then the result is lower.

The other tests were probably cholesterol and a full blood count (to see if you are anaemic). From the blood they took, they will also be able to see what your fasting blood sugar was too.
