Hi,

my changes would be,

no porridge.
I'm good with ryvita with low fat cheese and a bit of ham.

Burgen or livlife bread.

Sweet potato, or just veg.

No crisps

Coors Lite.

Best way is to get a meter, and find the best foods for you though, even if you have to pay for it as a one off.

Hi bram i am on the same dose as u i dont know how long u have been taking it, i have for about 7 weeks now. I am now getting readings first thing in the morning of around 7 with the odd 6.4 6.5 and my daily average is 7. I have found that i cant eat any bread without spiking to over 10. i have cut out all potatoes and decided a week ago i had to cut out porridge as well as this was giving me a mid morning level of 11ish. It seems that as the weeks have gone on my levels are coming down but only with seriously low carbs and the fasting morning is still the highest and often disappointing, i would love to know if there is something that can influence it

It'll come down over time.
Mine was high initially, but as I've lost weight my morning bs has dropped to a normal level.

hello pompygirl been on 2000 mg perday for some time.was 17 on rickter scale when diagnosed some years ago.now have severe neuropathy.its terrible and debilatating.you need to get your bs down by any means.troubleis most doctors dont give a dam so your on your own. Having trouble with my doctor, used to do my hba1c every 6 months now told me it has to be every 12 months as directed by NICE.but since found out its not true. I hate Doctors you cant trust them.listen to the diabetic blogers. You can only do your best.possible its the best your body can do.diabeties is basicly incurable and bs s do go up and down.the old figures for bs mmol I m told was 10.and this has been lowered to 6.5 by the medics as the datum line below that you have a chance.you also have to watch the medics they are more concerned with saving money than your life. So be firm if you need or learn of good treatment.do you get your testing strips from your doctor, you are entitled to them. My local ccg has and does restrict them .so musch for care in the community.the nhs is a complete shambles so dont depend on them either.all this is from experience. Being 75yrs old ive been there and done it.all the best

To be honest, I'm getting more information from the odd conversation with a friend who's son was recently diagnosed T1, than I do from my doctor or DN.

I was really disappointed with my first Hba1c. It wasn't what I was expecting. My day time readings I keep under control by eating next to no carbs, but I can't get my fasting reading down. My hba1c was 57, two months after diagnosis. I wasn't told if that was good or bad and wasn't given any pointers how to reduce it. The diet advice I was given was utter rubbish.

My friend looked up 57 for me on the chart in the consultants office when his son went to have his pump fitted and it turns out that it isn't too bad. I feel better now. No thanks to my health care team!
