In six months, my HbA1C level has fallen from 8.5% to 7%. The nurse thought that was good progress towards a target of 6%. My doctor, however, rang me for an urgent appointment and told me I was not doing enough fast enough. Is he right? Any other examples of doctors thinking progress has to be faster?

too fast is not good.......

maybe more so going from higher levels to lower levels..........but still worth doing gradually to protect the micro vascular system.....

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

7% isn't bad, but could be improved. However, it is good progress and going in the right direction. I say well done, but keep it up and perhaps try and tweak your diet a bit to get those levels down.

Do you use your meter to test out your meals by testing before and 2 hours after? That should give you a good indication as to whether you are on the right track with your diet. If you look at the difference between your before and after reading, ideally it should be less than 2mmol/l . Maybe you already do this?

I managed to take mine, over some months, from 8.9% to 6.4% and my nurse wanted me to go back up to 7%.........with some health care professionals you just cant win.

Hi @davidscottcollins If your are going in the right direction towards your target, could be something to do with medication etc;
Hope it all makes sense at your appointment.

It's going down and not up, I'm sure in time you'll reach your target David.

Firstly, WELL DONE!

It isn't easy changing the eating pattern of a lifetime.

Actually, I'm quite impressed that your doctor is pushing for lower - it would definitely be the best thing for your health, to lower your Hba1c to 6% (unless you are type 1 and its pushing you into hypos). Most health care professionals seem happy to let you stay higher, but personally I'm aiming for 6 or below too.

What is it that you think may be stopping it from dropping further?
