So I'm now 20 weeks pregnant and just got the results from my latest Hb and its 42!! Which I think is 7? I'm so proud of myself because of never tried so hard and I really want the best possible chance for my baby to be healthy! It was 8.4 at conception!! Just wanted to share ☺️ xx
 
I'm not really sure myself how I managed it to be honest!! I test constantly and correct if needed by a few units! I also now take metformin 3 x daily instead of twice which seems to be helping too!x

Is metformin ok to take during pregnancy? I thought you had to come off it during. I'm no expert tho. X

Even better news
A reading of 42 is actually 6.0 and not 7.0
A HbA1c of 7.0 is 53 in the new system in the UK

You are confusing your measurement units.

An HbA1c of 42 is 7mmol/l. The figure of 6 is actually 6% and nothing to do with mmol/l measurements.
An HbA1c of 7.0 is indeed 53 in the new system, but is 8.6mmol/l as per our meters.

For Hba1c the new measurement is in mmol/mol, and not in mmol/l.
The reading you get from a Meter (Finger Prick) is expressed in mmol/L or mg/dl.
In SA when you have a test you get readings like the following
Hb1ac 4.7%
B-HB1AC (IFCC) 28mmol/mol
Estimated Average Glucose 4.9 mmol/L

I think you have confused the units
 
My last two readings hba1c were 5.7 and 5.9 which are 39 and 41 .....so now I am confused
Because 42 would not be 7

You seem to be agreeing with me!!!

HbA1c 6% DCCT or 42mmol/mol
converts to 7mmol/L estimated average glucose

HbA1c 4.7% DCCT or 27.9mmol.mol
converts to 4.9mmol/L

as per the conversion chart on this website, link quoted above.

Yes , I always get the readings converted when I pick up my hba1c results ....:)
I still work in old money , so need to double check my figures ...thanks ...

Then I check them here on the site or any converter which @Andrew Colvin helps me with ...

They convert them to the old HbA1c units, which are % DCCT. These are not the same as mmol/l. Trust me.
