My good cholesterol, HDL, was staying pretty steady since I changed to the Keto lifestyle last May/June. The results from March '17, every three months was 154, 146, 156, 157, and now 129. Does anyone else have this happen on the Keto plan? What would cause these fluctuations? My LDL has gone from 269 last March to 213 this last checkup. That is good, I know. My A1C started at 6.7 and is now 5.5. That too is good. My doctor told me at my checkup in March not to sweat the small stuff and that I'm doing excellent. It's hard not to sweat when strange things happen. Thanks for any help/tips anyone can give me.

How are your triglycerides?

They went from 0.8 at the beginning to 0.6 now.

Overall that may be a improvement, remember it's the trig compared to HDL that most experts consider to be the predictor of risk, not the numbers on their own.

I had my 3-month appt with my Diabetic Educator yesterday. She said if she didn't know I was 70 she'd think my blood test results were those of a 19 to 20-year-old. I guess I do sweat the small stuff. And, I guess my lifestyle changes are working. She also said I don't need to come back for six months this time because she's not at all worried that I won't keep up the good work. If I get worried I can call her. Oh, and she said the low HDL this time would probably have been caused because I had been sick for two weeks and didn't get nearly as much exercise as I normally do. Relief! Thanks everyone.

What's the Keto plan?

What's the Keto plan?
A ketogenic way of eating involves limiting carbohydrate consumption to a minimum (usually less than 20g per day) moderate consumption of protein anywhere between 0.6 and 1.5g per kilo of lean body weight per day and using fat to provide satiety (not endless eating of fat but eat until you are full). It has many benefits some of which are weight loss, regulation of blood sugar levels (by not triggering responses) , mental clarity and not feeling hungry thus allowing fasting to happen naturally.
