Newly diagnosed as diabetic (assuming type 2). woke this morning with a headache, Blood Sugar reading 13.2 and as the day has progressed I feel myself getting more and more tired, what can I do to make myself feel better? supposed to be visiting relatives in a few hours and at this rate, I can see myself being asleep :(

Hello Fiona, I have read posts from others about using exercise to lower levels. Walking, going up and down stairs etc. I'm sorry I can't help more. I hope someone else posts with more experience.

Thanks for the reply mo53, I have been fairly active this morning, went shopping and was constantly walking around for 2 hours, just wondered if there was something else I could try, going to have a sugar free drink and see if it wakes me up a bit.

Lots of fresh veg and salad helps me bring mine down and less tired , it gets better as your bloods go down , you will feel more energy as it drops , plenty of sugar free drinks helps too :)

I start to get tired as I go over 8.5 so I expect that is what is causing your tiredness. You need to eat but stay away from carbs for a bit to let your numbers come down. What are you planning to eat tonight. Try an omelette or liver, bacon, etc with salad/veg - no bread, potatoes, rice, pasta. Check everything you eat for carbohydrate content (not just "of which sugars") and try and stay with foods that are less than 20 % for the next few days and I expect we will see your levels come down and then the tiredness will go.

Have a read around the forum for ideas of diet changes you can make to bring your levels under control for life and ask any questions you may have. Oh and welcome to the D club. Sorry you had to join us but you are more than welcome.
