Just come out of a very worrying interview with a benefit assessor regarding the renewal of my medical fit note given to me by my GP.
(I will state at this point i’m in receipt of Universal Credit as I somehow scored 0 points for my disability assessment and swiftly taken off ESA. Something I would suggest that’s happened to others on here)
It’s fair to say I’ve not ever seen this person before today and what an absolute abhorrent experience it was.
Upon handing in my fit note and going through the usual formalities instead of offering the usual assistance that would of normally of been offered in my journey of regaining a somewhat acceptable balance of fitness and capability, my fit note was immediately disregarded and the first thing said about the situation was
“let’s see what you are capable of”
Before I know it I’m having a list of jobs thrown at me and things I must adhere to!
I’m assuming that they are assistance blind as he’s clearly not seen me taking a while to rise up from my sedentary position and walk slower than a snail to my appointment desk! Whilst walking with a walking aide.
All he was interested in was laying out the negatives (sanctions if you don’t do this that or the other)
Since when has a GP’s instruction been so disregarded?
Almost makes the fit note a worthless document now if this is their approach to people’s problems be it temporarily or permanently!
Has anyone else experienced benefit issues or jobs worth staff who read from the hymn book rather than using their own initiative?
This is the first time in 17 years I’ve had anything prolonged health wise and in that time I’ve barely had any sickness periods except for the usual flus etc.
