Health scare.

Last night I had a major scare, I started to feel really sick and my heart starting beating very hard but not rapid or slowly just normal rate for me! My eye site started to flicker black at the sides in bright light and pins and needles in my left arm and tingling on my lips! I now feel a lot better and can't figure out what it was.
I'm 40, female slightly overweight and a type 2 diabetic on Metformin 1000mg a day for about 3 years now. For the last 3 months I've started going to the gym and really started to feel good about myself. I was close to the point of calling an ambulance but finally managed to settle and get some sleep after 4 hours of this happening.
I've never had a "Hypo" and was wondering if this was the symptoms you can get! Will be getting a diabetic appointment first thing Monday morning to find out what happened!
Thanks in advance for any information / help that's given.

yyour symptoms don't really sound like a hypo.Hypo usually includes feeling disoriented or light headed or faint. Your symptoms sound a bit like my Migraine. although not being a doctor, I'm not allowed to diagnose
In any case T2 on Metformin alone isn't likely to be hypo, although it can happen. If you are worried and especially if it happens again, see your GP or A&E.
Congratulations on your efforts in the gym!

I would speak to a doctor with symptoms like that, even if you feel OK now. It might be nothing, but don't just ignore it.

Thank you for your replies. I had another less serious one today in the middle of town nearly passed out but managed to get myself to my doctors. They did blood sugar 5.1 and blood pressure 132 over 85 so all normal there, was in there for about an hour and they gave me Jaffa Cakes and they calmed me down a lot. I had a few keytones in my urine but they thought that was because I was near my dinner time. They've given me a blood sugar tester and some gel to rub onto my gums if I start to feel bad. I took my sugar again when I got home and it was 7.1 and I still have rubber legs and have rung in work to tell them I'm not going in! Had some food and now going to have a sleep as I feel shattered, then will take me blood again when I get up. I'm a bit worried as this has all came out of the blue, and I'm really enjoying the gym and don't want to stop going.

Hi Wabit,
It looks as though you have been having false hypos that are making you feel ill. The level of 5.1 was certainly not in hypo territory as 4 and below are considered hypo.
Perhaps your blood sugars have been running high for a while and now they are lower this is why you feel ill.Seems a good thing to come out of this is that you have been given testing equipment. :D

If I had those symptoms I'd want the dr to do more than check my blood sugar, personally.

I've had hypos that felt exactly like that. Obviosly I can't diagnose you but I think it might be a good idea to test your blood sugar every time you feel wrong just to rule out or confirm a hypo, since it's the easiest thing to fix. When my blood sugar was high all the time, my hypo symptoms started to kick in at about 7mmol, which is obviously not a hypo. I just had to get used to having blood sugars in the more normal range, after a while I got back to only having hypo symptoms when I was actually hypo.
If you manage to rule out hypos, hassle your doctor until he does something about it :-)
