Since 1984 i have had Heart disease, 5years ago i was told i had type 2 Diabeties, and trying to combine Heart diet and Diabetic diet is proving to be a real problem.
Does any one have any suggestions on how to combine the two successfully.

Try the GI diet by Rick Gallop, thats good for most diabetics and is also low in fats. I try to avoid fats, not for my heart but because I had pancreatitus 20 years ago and was advised to try to keep as low fat as poss.

Not sure what your supposed to eat and I'm certainly no expert but healthy eating is healthy eating I suppose?

Hi David,

A Professor I know tells me that cardiologists in London no longer recommend low fat diets for their patients. Part of the thinking at least is that triglycerides are by far the most harmful blood fats in terms of cardiac illness. Since triglycerides are greatly elevated by carbohydrates in the diet, the low fat heart healthy idea is looking very shaky now.

All the best,

Hi Fergus
So does this mean that i can eat anything then and still stay healthy?
There is so much conflicting evidence about what is healthy to eat that i think i will decide what is good for me by body reaction to things.
The Draw back to this is i tend to put on weight, my BMI is 28 and should be 23 so again i am caught between the devil and the deep.
Camerman's GI Diet looks good so i will learn more about it and try it.
Regards to all DAVID

Hi David,

No, what it means, I think, is that dietary fat has been wrongly implicated as the prime suspect in relation to heart disease risk. Risk factors appear to reduce as refined and starchy carbohydrates are replaced by dietary fats (trans-fats excluded of course).

That's good to know, seems it is finally catching on that Ancel Keys was a charlatan rather than a genius

William Davis is a cardiologist

much of what he writes is backed up both by research and personal experience

It would appear that fats are only dangerous in the presence of toxic levels of carbs. Without the carbs and ensuing high BG, trigs and insulin, fats are metabolised quite differently
