Hi there
My boyfriend has recently seem to have acquired a heightened sense of smell, especially where food is concerned, the smallest thing can turn him off food, he says he can smell body odour on him when i cant smell anything (and my sense of smell is usually quite acute) Is this another symptom that diabetes can cause or do you think there willl be some other underlying reason?
Yes, he is on metformin and another 3 tablets twice a day cant remember what they are, though one is for controlling cholesterol
Another thing is the last few days he has two bouts of near passing out due to low blood sugar levels(he previously only suffered from high blood sugar) this, after eating well and at the proper times, just dont understand it?
If I were you I'd just go to your GP or call up a health line and ask if those pills can give any of those side-effects. Perhaps it tells you on the side of the pack?

Hi, I am an insulin-dependent type 1 diabetic (44 yrs), and had a low blood sugar this evening (3.6) and noticed that my sense of smell was greatly heightened until my blood sugar.level rose to 5.5. There must be a link between my sense of smell and my brain function and the impact on it of a low blood sugar level. I am not medically trained it's just my personal observation.
