Hi everyone, I had gestational diabetes in my second pregnancy and 15 years later was dagnosed Type 2 and prescribed metformin. Not much happened over the next 5 years until we moved out of London and away from a very busy GP practice to Buckinghamshire where the GP and diabetic nurse seemed to take a bit more interest in me. Have had regular HBA1c tests and they are coming in at 56, went for latest result last week and was given a BG meter and Gliclazide 80mg by the nurse which sent my blood sugar crashing to 3.8 and a hypo on day one. Been to see the GP today and mentioned this and he has reduced me to 30mg SR which I start tomorrow.

Looking forward to looking through the forum and hopefully learning many useful tips. Have finally started to sit up and take notice and embarking on reducing my carb intake and hopefully losing weight. From what I have seen so far my HBA1c isn't that high, but I feel I am already rattling with 2 x metformin morning and 2 evening, thyroxine x 2, BP pills x 2, 1 x Simvastatin at night and Vitamin B and cod liver oil caps, currently on 12 tabs a day, plus Ventolin inhaler, been told I need to get HBA1c to below 50 and the diabetes nurse up,here is very scary so going to do my best to comply.

Wow you are one of the few lucky ones to be given a bg meter!

I'll tag @daisy1 who will post some info you may find useful :)
