Hello and thank you all

Yes, all those ingredients (synthetic / chemicals) sound disgusting. The way I rationalised it was to consider the diet products as a medicine that I would be taking very short term as an alternative to the diabetes meds and chemicals I would need long term if I didn't manage to reverse diabetes.

Happily, by using the synthetic diet products I am , after almost 10 years, no longer ingesting diabetes meds.

Welcome from me @Hegehog123. I hope you will do well on Newcastle diet, and join the 'reversed' club like some of us who have already done so through ND.

Some people like to suggest alternative diets, but if you have decided on ND, do not be put off. At the end of the ND you will need to consider what you are going to eat, and low carb is recommended. Good advice.

I exercise in water to improve movement and muscle tone.

I think with any big weight loss there will be some loose skin. Unless you are very young. I don't know what your priorities are, but for me it was to reverse the T2 diabetes. Weight loss was a bonus.

Hi Pipp. Thank you for your good wishes. I just wanted you all to know that you are not just talking to each other on here. I'm sure there are lots of people who are not members who are reading your messages without you knowing and being inspired as I was. I think on the same lines as you have mentioned. I don't care what I put in provided it does the job its intended to do and it doesn't make me ill. I wrote down the reasons why on one side of a page and came up with about 10 very good reasons, and on the why not I only had "because I'm lazy and I love food"! So I got started. The ND is definitely to lose the diabetes if I can. Your weight loss is amazing I hope I can do as well as you - I have half of me to lose but I haven't decided which half yet, ha-ha!.

I originally lost more. Start weight was 144kg. When I said to the nurse weighing me "That's gross" she looked at me blankly. I think she was to young to have had the same sort of maths lessons I did.

At my lightest on ND I was 95 kg. still obese, but BG non-diabetic. I have regained some weight since. I am disabled and have needed two major surgical operations, been quite immobile and had a lot of 'healthy' hospital food, and food prepared by others when I have not been able to prepare food myself. I ave also tested limits of carb food to see if they had the effect of raised BG, but they didn't, just weight.

So, I have work to do yet if I want to avoid the diabetes trap. It really is important to have a plan for after the VLCD phase.

Whichever half of you you decide to lose, make sure you keep the determined and humorous parts.

:)

Hi again everyone. I'm not sure whether I am doing this right but I thought as Sunday is my measuring day I'd update my progress. Weight loss not so much this week, only 2lbs (I don't really understand how it can be so small when I'm only eating about 600 calories a day) but my fasting BG was 4.6 so diet appears to be achieving the objective in terms of diabetes and 20 lbs in 5 weeks isn't bad I think. Onwards and upwards as they say, only 3 more weeks to go officially for the ND although I might carry on as I said before. Thank you all for your support and encouragement - it means a lot.
