Hi,

I'm Linda and was diagnosed with type 2 last July. I'm taking Metformin and my first Hba1c in Oct was 6.00 which my nurse said was OK.

I'm still learning what I can and cannot eat, but it's difficult to persuade my GP to let me have testing strips on prescription, so I am buying them myself. Mustn't get too obsessed with all this testing malarkey, but I would like to know if I can safely eat a couple of rich tea bikkies with my coffee!

I'm sure I will learn loads on this site.

Linda xx

Hi Linda and welcome. :D

You won't know if you can eat your biccies unless you test! We are all different and therefore all react differently. You need to know what food does to your body so that you can make an informed decision as to what is ok for you to eat.

Speaking for myself I have to limit my intake of carbohydrates as certain foods shoot my BG levels through the roof so I don't indulge in those at all. You have to find out for yourself. You should test before you eat and then test 2 hours afterwards.

Hi Linda
you definitely do need to find out what you can and cannot eat, within targets which you might work out with your care team.
I personally go with Dr. Richard Bernstein's point that every diabetic has a right to a normal blood sugar.
I cannot see the point in aiming for targets which are way above non-diabetic.
There are other points of view and you must find what suits you and what you can sustain, because in the end, however helpful your care team, it's YOU who has to do the work and take the consequences if you slip up.
