Hi
@Kate26, Sorry to hear you are battling against the tide !
Perhaps could you tell us a little about what your current insulin therapy, diet (carbs, protein etc per meal or snack), and what you do to correct high BSLs.? That way people can get a better handle on things and help you better.
I assume your thyroid medication is keeping your thyroid test results in range.
In general terms, the usual first thoughts I have are about: ( and these are my thoughts, not professional advice or opinion):
- injections sites where injecting into the same spot or area may adversely affect the absorption of insulin from that area
- stress due to worry, are brewing infection (cough, cold, urine infection, sinus or skin infection,. cycles)
- insulin degradation in heat - the drug information pamphlet with your prescribed insulin(s) states that insulin is to be stored for stability until expiry date at between 2 and 8 degrees C, but that a current in-use ampoule. pen etc can be kept outside the fridge fo 30 days, provided it does not freeze or be exposed to temperatures > 30 degrees C.
So you may wish to think whether at recent batch your insulin might have frozen in the fridge or been left out for enough time to reach above 8 degrees C, or an ampoule/pen in current use has been left in a car and been heated up in the sun etc. If you think any of the above apply do may need to avoid that insulin and if you have no 'trustworthy' insulin available you would need to contact your pharmacist and doctor urgently.
For any point above please discuss with your DSN or doctor.
Best Wishes. Looking forward to your post.
