Hello everyone.
Thought I would join and say hello after reading some of the posts on the forum.
I am married am 43 with 2 kids (4 and 15) and have been an insulin dependant Type 1 diabetic since around the age of 4.
My paternal grandfather was also a diabetic.
I currently take at least 4 injections a day (altered depending on what I am eating/doing) and have been driving since 1985.
I have had no complications until the last few years and now have had laser in both eyes (left one a lot more than the right which has been fine for 2 years),blurred vision in my left eye :***: for 3 months (twice, latest was June-Aug) ,and my left leg below the knee/ankle/foot has swollen incredibly since last Jan although I have been told its not diabetes related.I passed blood pressure tests,ECG's,DVT scans and had a radioactive nuclear scan last month where radioactive dye was injected between each toe (ouch!) and photos are taken over the following 4 hrs to see why the veins/lymphatic system possibly arent draining......due to see vascular surgeon for results end of Jan
My average blood level results are usually between 6.5 and 7.9 when I see the diabetologist every 4 or 5 months.
I also take Simvastatin and Lisinopril (as a precaution rather than a treatment as I understand it) and have recently been prescribed Metformin.
I'm a bit concerned over long term insulin resistance which I just learned about during a talk with my GP which is why the Metformin was prescribed.
Anyway, sorry for the boring bit and hope to help if I can and ask questions when I need answers.
Regards
Buck

Hi Buck and welcome to the forum
I think your experience could be very useful to less knowledgeable members who need some help so I hope you will visit often. In return, I think you will also learn a lot from the other members. Do ask questions if there is something you want to know and there will probably be someone who knows the answer.
