just to say hi to everyone i am recently diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic ,which doesnt meen a lot to me so i am hoping people may be able to answer some of my concerns as i am clueless the first one being , can you recommend the best blood glucose testing kit i am looking but their seems to be so many accu-check seem to appeal but maybe you can advise.

Welcome to the forum ,Jake, you've come to the right place. As regards meters, can you get one from your doctor/nurse?I have a one Touch Ultra which I like. You only need a small drop of blood,it gives you plenty of time to 'load' and you can download all your readings onto computer to make a very impressive chart to take to your doctor.Having said that ,so do most of the others and other members will recommend other meters because they like them! I don't know if there is a lot of difference between them.
Have a good read round the forum and you will find lots of interesting hints and tips about diet, exercise and generally getting on top of your diabetes to let you live your life to the full.

hya jake,

thanks for the response ,i dont know about getting one supplied im a bit in the dark (only diagnosed monday this week )and the diabetes education at the hospital is booked solid till mid august so im in limbo any suggestions? i feel a bit stupid as i dont know what i should/should not eat and i havent had much info re-my diet the diabetes was only picked up following a recent heart attack (blood tests) and i am awaiting more tests i.e. scans before they decide how to broach the heart problem but i would like to get the diabetes thing under control,so please feel free to clue me up.

hya jake,
you can buy the monitors either from chemists and then maybe ask the gp surgery if they can supply strips (u generally get about 10 strips with the monitor)is there anything specific you want to know,i am by no means a pro ,but did do a uni course on diabetes and if i dont know the answer im sure someone on here might, it also seems different drs etc have diff ways of dealing with things,as i have just found out grr, have a great weekend
amanda
