Hi everyone!
I just singed up and I've never done anything like this before so I thought I'd say hi.
I was diagnosed almost ten years ago with type one diabetes, it's been a long hard journey but I have better control now then I ever have. When I was younger I thought I was the only one with diabetes, it's common enough that people know what it is but they don't really Know. So I wanted to try this site out and talk to people who understand just how hard it can be.
About five years ago I got an insulin pump and let me tell you it makes thing so much easier. It gives you tighter control over your numbers and insulin dosage, and gives you freedom and ease that would be harder to do with needles. I love it and the freedom it gives me to live my life the way I want to.
People will ask me how I deal with diabetes, and the truth is I've lived with it so long I've stopped thinking of it as a disease, it's just a part of who I am. It does make it harder when I want to go out to eat or hang out with a friend but you learn to live with what you have. You can sulk all you want but in the end that's not going to fix anything, you have to stand up and fight for what you want. Because the truth is you can do almost anything you want with having diabetes.
I've traveled over seas and sure having diabetes made it a bit tricky, but I made sure I had everything I needed and kept up with cheeking my blood sugar and I had as much fun as everyone else.
I hope I can talk and learn how other people handler their diabetes, and make lots of new friends!
