I thought I'd say Hello and introduce myself ...

My name's Yasmin and I had a major life change in October last year - I was admitted to hospital with a SVT (tachycardia) and diagnosed the next day with diabetes.

Since then, I've been losing weight (nearly 3 1/2 stone to-date), changed my eating and drinking habits and learning all the time how to deal with Type 2 diabetes. I'm on insulin (Novorapid and Levemir) and tablets and my last HbA1c result was 5.6. My GP and Diabetes Medical team have been extremely supportive and helpful, likewise my partner, family, friends and work colleagues.

I don't know whether it's because it's almost the six month anniversary of my diagnosis, I've recently been having to deal with being fed up with dealing with the daily diabetes management and being very tearful and feeling a bit up and down. One minute I'm fine, and the next minute I'm crying! I've been signed off from work for just over a week which has helped me to rest and I'm hoping that this low feeling will soon pass.

I've been in touch with my GP and Medical team who have given me support and advice, but I'd really appreciate receiving any advice from members please :)

Many thanks and regards,

Yasmin

Hi Yasmin,
Wow! You have done an amazing job of treating your diabetes...and I am so impressed! Sorry, that comes across a bit patronising, but it really isn't meant to! As Sarah said, diabetes does get most people down sometimes, so you are certainly not alone with that. I also agree that it is the fact that you can't take a "day off" from time to time. For me, if I do let things slip, I feel really guilty..although I do feel a bit rebellious at teh time, so I can't win. If you are feeling depressed, rather than a bit down, then this is different. It sounds like you have a great medical team though!
Son't feel bad about hating your diabetes...those smiling faces on the front of the Balance magazine are posing...and are just supposed to encourage us...although sometimes they just wind me up!!

Hi Yasmin.

Well done on the weight loss, fantastic !

We all get low sometimes with managing the diabetes. But then I think, I am healthier now than I have been for years. Okay, so I'm diabetic. So what? Even my kids are telling me I look good and are dieting to catch up. that's something to be pleased about!

So keep it up: the miseries are normal. See you around....

Hi SarahQ, sugar and whitemare

I just wanted to say thanks for your welcome and for your speedy and helpful replies to my message; your advice and comments have certainly helped me.

I have another appointment with my GP tomorrow (he's seen me a couple of times already over the past ten days or so) and I've been in contact with my Diabetes Nurse earlier this week and whilst I still feel low, I don't feel quite as bad as before.

Since October until now, I've had regular appointments with my medical team at my surgery and Diabetes Centre, also had an 'annual diabetic review', eye screening and the diabetic dietician. On top of that, I've had various appointments related to my SVT and have since been discharged. I feel as though I've been on a steep learning curve!

Bye for now,
Yasmin

Good to know you are feeling more positive now Yasmin.

By the way, Have you been referred to a podiatrist? that usually comes in with the retinal scans and blood tests, so I understand.
