Hi all. Been looking at this website since I was diagnosed Type 2 on the 14th July. I had actually gone to the Docs to ask him to help me lose weight (I'm a bit of a bloater!) and had this lovely bombshell dropped on me. My A1c was 9.0 on diagnosis and my cholestrol was 7.5. Not sure about all the numbers but I know my good cholestrol was non existant and my Tri Glycerides were over 9.0... Not good! Anyway I had the usual rubbish from the dietician and the diabetic nurse so I got myself a BG meter, and whilst I cant say I'm Lo Carb yet, I have made huge strides with my diet and have lost 2 and a half stone so far...although a long way to go. Got an appointment with the Doc first thing Monday for results of three month bloods...should be interesting. Anyway Loads of useful advice on here, but it just winds you up when you get such drool from supposed experts  . I'll let you know what happens on Monday  JB.

Welcome to the forum,Giblet.Sounds like you are on the right road already.Let's hope that your Hba1c is well below 9 this time and that your cholesterol figures are down as well.Good luck on Monday!

Great stuff Giblet,

Y'know, I think we might finally be getting somewhere! When newbies now have direct access to first hand info from fellow diabetics, they can be spared the usual dietary drivel we've been subjected to for too long. Hurrah for the interweb!

All the best,

fergus

I have found this site so helpful. More so than the so called medical experts. Also I dont feel judged which makes life a hell of a lot easier. Thank you all for that.

Thanks I love it too its so me :D But its really all down to you all that I have felt so at home so quickly.

You know I am not saying I'm perfect yet, but as soon as I started to test and cut down on the bread and pasta I could see a big difference. The dietician from the hospital was a joke. He was insistant about the starchy food with every meal and got annoyed when I tried to ask him why my sugar levels were lower through a day where I was strict about carbs. His answer...."you shouldn't be testing"! At this point I went into smile and ignore mode. I forgot to add in my first post the doc put me on statins too. No side effects so far...still nervous about the results tomorrow.

TRouble is what we're dealing with are well-intentioned people, who REALLY believe the rubbish they're spouting. they've managed to foreget ALL they ever learned about human nutrition. And we all know where roads lead to when paved with good intentions.
However there is light at the end of this very llong tunnel
My own GP, who I've been training in this, has admitted that medical opinion is coming round to our way of thinking. I also know he's been discussing, Me, my ideas and Bernstein, with the local Diabetes consultant On the Golf course!
We have to kep chipping away.
Trouble is medical schools take "the brightest and best" of our young people and then teach them to give up thinking and follow like sheep.
Still we're all being taught in Primary school that the rainbow consists of Red, Orange,Yellow, Green, Blue, INDIGO and Violet.
Just look at the real thing. THERE IS NO INDIO IN A RAINBOW.
WE DO NOT NEED TO EAT CARBOHYDRATE.
dificult to unlearn stuff isn't it?

Doctors Update.

I love going to the doctors I reeeally do!... Got there at 8:40 only waited 3 minutes to go into the Docs....But the computers were all down "Computer says no"... No access to my blood test results! Oh bloody joy. Had all my questions lined up and all to no avail. The only thing I did do was get him to give me the slow release version of Metformin as I have been suffering so much with a gippy tummy and the odd bout of rampant sickness. So I have to ring back tomorrow when the computers are working and book another appointment
