Hello,

My name is Ed, I have pottered around the diabetes.co.uk website for a while being diabetic for around 6 years.

I was originally diagnosed as Type 1 which was a real bummer because it was the day before I applied for commercial pilot training @ Oxford Air Training College.

2 years later my insulin requirement reduced considerably and after a few tests I came off medication completely and have been diet controlled for the last 4 years.

Unfortunately, over the past month my sugar levels have creeped up to fasting levels of 10+, I am starting Pioglitozone and possibly going to have to go back onto injections. Bummer round 2.

I thought I would get on the forum to give myself a kick up the **** and to control of the diabetes again. I look forward to reading through all the posts.

Hi Eds,
Being an inbetweener is not that odd nowadays, more and more research is showing that its not a simple split between people who have insulin resistance and people who have an absolute insulin deficiency.
It is unusual to go off all medication like that for so long but I have read of others.
The trouble is that there are several possiblilies.
(I don't know how much your doc has said so I won't go into details here but basically they have had
LADA, MODY, type 1b or were missdiagnosed and were type 2... take your pick!... )

I think that you should keep a careful eye on those glucose levels. If your fasting levels are in the 10s, they are possibly far higher after meals. It might be a good idea to get some ketone strips to test if they start going up quickly.
