Hi all,
I was diagnosed with type 2 in early December, while in hospital being checked for a DVT (which was confirmed). Glucose 15 and high cholesterol. I am just coming up to my first A1c after 8 weeks on full dosage of Metformin and statins. Overweight but losing gradually, and 58, I am now a freelance photographer/website designer after 39 years in computing. I spent the last five years working in France and having been diagnosed its a big relief to understand some of the symptoms i was experiencing towards the end of that time. It was very stressful to me and after 5 years I was ready to come home (a year ago).
I have started exercise on prescription and I am enjoying the idea of getting fitter than I have been for years. I am waiting for the retinography test results and I am terrified that I might suffer loss if vision, with my love of photography.
Feeling positive but underlying fears about the serious nature of both conditions. I was disappointed that the nurse at my surgery was very reluctant to hand over my last test results but since I have been told I am entitled to them, I am going to insist that I get the next ones.
Nice to meet you all :)

Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
Welcome to the forum,Graham.Yes you are entitled to your test results! Insist that you get them.Don't be fobbed of by them saying that everything is fine.
Please have a good read round the forum and your will find lots of advise and info about different diets and how to get your diabetes under control. If you can get your blood sugar levels down to under 7 this will help protect your eyes from diabetic damage.I also love photography,in fact, there are several photographers on the forum already.

Well "technically" you're not. You *are* entitled to ask for them, but they can refuse to hand them over if they believe it will "adversely affect your condition or treatment"

(BTDT when I tried to get a previous doctor to let me see my own notes, he listed a number of excuses. Strangely after I moved my new GP had no problem letting me see the notes and get all my results - BUT everything before 1980 has mysteriously been lost. One wonders what the previous guy was trying to cover up . . .)

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement.
I did get my Hba1c results after two months on full metformin dosage. Down to 7.6 from 15 so I am pretty pleased. Onwards and upwards.... to infinity and beyond!!!!!!!! :D

This time nest year you'll be in the 5% Club. Congratulations on doing what all too many medical professionals claim is impossible!
