Hey Stuart...I was diagnosed with Type 2 this year after a transplant. I never had this when I was living in Perth & Kinross-shire - must be be connected to being out near Denny! Or...it's just how it is. Anyway, Scottish connection established alongside this no sweeties thing...as others have said, no point battering you with info...use the site..I joined about a fortnight ago and have found it extremely helpful. For now though, I'd say the three most important things are - 1] make sure whoever you see next gives you a self-testing meter (unless I've misunderstood and you already have one) and a prescription for strips coz you will use plenty; 2] keep a diary of what you eat, when you eat it and what your readings are before and two hours after eating..its the only way to get in control (and you sound the kind of guy who needs to be) - I test now about 6-8 times a day purely to establish a clear pattern (despite my doctor telling me its too much)..its my body - and can figure out what works for you personally; and 3] try a low carb diet - I have had really good results on this (having stopped my meds to see). And..eggs are totally fine...carb wise, biggest things to avoid if you can are bread, cereals and potatoes. Foods that generally help greatly are asparagus and avacado. I was given no advice beyond - "you have Type 2, here's a meter". best person to inform you is yourself..use the site/community. Good luck, mate.
