Hello to everyone, and "Happy New Year"
I'm Baggsy (Ex Royal Navy POMA(O)) I was diagnosed a type 1 diabetic in July 2011, which was a bit of shock as I didn't feel at all ill.
My surgery called me at 9am and said they needed see to me, and basically said over the phone I was now diabetic!!
Anyway, I saw the diabetes nurse who asked if I'd had breakfast? I'd had the standard coffee with 2 sugars, and when tested my BM was a not very healthy 26! so diagnosis confirmed then.
1st HBA1C was 13.2% , I went straight onto insulin at 10 units BD, after a few weeks that eventually went to 18 units BD and has remained the same ever since, my last HBA1C tested in October was 7.1% that was my 1st test after starting treatment. so I was pretty pleased with it.
However I've had a few problems with work. As an HSE Offshore medic I've been unable to get a medical to allow me to work offshore, I have to have another medical in Jan 2012, that will be 6 months after initial diagnosis, I'm hoping that seeing as everything is stable, no Hypo's ever and another good HBA1C will convince them I'm safe to work offshore. We shall see.......watch this space if I get knocked back, I will not be a happy bunny.
Anyway hopefully everyone will have a good 2012.
Cheers Baggsy
