Hi I have recently been for the GTT (at 28 weekspg ) and my readings came back at 6.1 after fasting all night and then 4.0 2 hours after drinking the lucozade - so they tell me I'm high risk becasue of the 6.1 and have gave me the monitor and test sticks to check blood sugars before every meal and 1 hour after - I wasn't not too pleased as I just thought they were picking on me unneccesarily.. so after 1 whole week my levels (I think) have been fine - ranging from 3.9 before meals to 8.00 after. So my question is - do I have gest diabetes?

I have to go back and see the diabetic consultant next week and I am hoping he will tell me I dont have to continue to test. Since begining testing I have been really good with the foods I have been eating - no chocolate or biscuits and I'm afraid teo eat my yoghurts and muller rice that I already had sotcked up in teh fridge prior to starting testing - I persume these are full of sugars?? Its coming up to the weekdn and I am so fed up with eating rabbit food I was going to have my ususal weekend treat of a chinese on saturday night - do you think its wise??

I hope someone erplies as I have erad through the forum and everyone seesm so nice and very helpful too :P

Hello,

Nobody can tell you if you do have GD except the professionals I'm afraid but to me your sugars don't sound too horrendous to me.

Muller rices and yoghurts are full of sugar I'm afraid so I would avoid until you get a definite diagnosis also, watch the amount of carbs you are eating as carbs=sugar

hi, I'm no doctor but your readings don't sound too bad to me - maybe they just want you to watch it to see if you do get gestational diabetes. however your readings depend on what you've been eating, If you are getting 8's after a relatively carb free meal then I would say that's more of a concern that if you have had a high carb meal.

Can you test yourself after a carb-laden meal to see if your body is naturally producing the right amount of insulin? That would give you more of an indication of how much insulin you are producing.

Also are you higher in the morning (after breakfast) than later in the day? cos the pregnancy hormones that resist insulin are generally higher in the morning
