I havent quite worked this forum out as yet.
I live in Rochester kent,
As far as I know I have had type2 diabetes for a year,I have been on 500mg Metformin for the last three months,and realy found them difficult,and havent felt well at all,very tired ,swetting a lot,I was fine before medication, Had a fasting blood test yesterday ,results next week, I have started to feel anxious but dont know why,its not a nice feeling at all.
 
Hi Pat, welcome to the Forum. I was diagnosed with Type 2 in February and I am on Metformin. It does take a little while for it to get into your system and can make you feel a bit grotty to start with, however, if you are still feeling unwell ask your doctor to put you on the Slow Release Metformin, it is a bit more expensive than the ordinary one, but is kinder to your system.

Do you test your bg before and after eating, as sometimes it your bg is on the high side it can cause you to feel hot and sweaty. I can understand you feeling anxious, I felt the same to start with, but have a good look round the forum and other people's posts, you will pick up lots of information and tips. If you have any questions ask away, there are a lot of lovely people on here ready to help if you need it.

Thank you for your welcome and advice,Im on SR Metformin only 500mg, I havent been given a tester as I was told they were only for people on Insulin.I had no side effects before medication,but now after 3 months feel bad.Thank you for your advice.

Hi Pat, the NHS do not give meters or strips to Type 2 diabetics, so you have to provide your own. You can get a code free meter from Amazon and the strips are quite cheap compared to most other brands. I would suggest that you get yourself a meter and test before eating and 2 hours after so that you know what foods affect your blood glucose. Within 3 months of being diagnosed my HbA1c went down to normal levels and I only achieved this by testing, even though I was told not to test by my DSN and I have to say that I have loads more energy and feel better than I have for ages.

Hello pat , nice to meet you , give yourself a bit of breathing space it is still very early days yet with the metformin , your body really needs time to adjust to the medication and often the 3 monthly hba1c blood tests will show if the medication is working....try not to worry...

First time I had a hypo I mistook it for a bad anxiety attack, as suffered in past, my bs was only just under 4 the first time but as I'd been running very high felt very low to my body I think, conversely if I eat yogurt or something else that spikes my blood sugar over 15-16 I get really irritable and my mind races, best way is to get a meter definately and see what your levels are like when you notice yr feeling not right :) don't fret and let it make you more anxious tho please, can you put the anxiety down to anything in particular? Maybe you have similar thoughts each time, try 'listening in ' a bit more to your inner monologue and pick out any negative thought patterns, it's surprising what scripts our brains get used to running without us actually realising it :) years back I developed problems going out seemingly out of the blue, when I really listened in, I found that every time I was due to go out I was actually spending a good 5 minutes imagining all the bad things that might happen when I went out, they were so fleeting and automatic I didn't realise I was even doing it ! :)

I have got a Accu-Check Mobile today,Kept me busy for a couple of hours working it out,Im not a gadget person,It reminded me of a new mobile phone,anyway I got it sorted and took my blood sugar before my evening dinner,it was 6.3 which I thought was ok.

Yes we are diabetic for life and have to accept it.
I like a Gin and slimline tonic when I am making the evening meal,thats all I have,dosent seem to be harming me,cant be miserable all the time

i, they do give meters and strips at my surgery, so maybe most don't but not all Jill

I'm new to the forum too. I started a new thread when I registered last night, and a lot of folk said I sounded like I was trying to sell something. Haha.

I'm not a type2, but I have had type1 diabetes for nearly 16 years now. I'm on injections, Metformin and Glimeperide as my diabetes consultant thought I may have been a type2 and was trying to get me off injections.

I have the diabetic clinic in a couple of weeks. I always feel anxious, but just remember, your diabetes team are there to help you. And if your blood reading is high, there are things that can be done. Sounds like you're having side effects to Metformin though?

I get my test results on Wednesday,another three months gone,Its a long time to wait to see how you are,I expect to get more tablets and wait another three months,no wonder we are anxious.
Low carbs may bring BS down but you feel very lacking in energy,I cant have fat for calories due to high colestoral LDL.
I have looked at your link,looks very good..
 
3 months seems an awfully long time for you. No wonder you're anxious.

I was getting fed up of eating an averaged size sandwich and getting high readings. And obviously over the passed few years, the Atkins diet has deemed very popular, but a lot of the dieters have complained about it because they miss carbs.

That's why I started doing a lot of research. You can't believe everything you read on the internet, but you hear a lot of hype about high fibre diets, so that's where my healthy eating journey began.

I've discovered a lot of interesting and new foods of late, and I've been enjoying being creative with them. And the good news is that whole foods such as nuts, seeds and beans have "good fats" apparently that can help an individual control their "bad cholesterol", which is a must for us diabetics.

My diabetes consultant has actually mentioned including olive oil into my diet as it can be beneficial to good cholesterol control. I use olive oil to cook with now, particularly stir frying veg :)
