I have answered the personal questions bit so now I thought I would give you my story,
I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic January 16 2011, after months of going back and fore the GP with various symptoms (unquenchable thirst, thrush, feeling generally shattered) for about 4 months they finally agreed to test me (I had to beg) now considering I have a family history (my mum and nan were both type 2) I think that the GP surgery I am with needed their heads tested but there we go.
After they initially agreed to the test I had to wait a further month for the phlebotomy appointment.
In this time I developed pneumonia and was rushed to hospital in a near coma, They diagnosed my diabetes the next day. I had a blood glucose of 22.2 so was put on the slider scale for the night. My treatment was decided as just Metformin and diet.
I managed to get my sugars to a normal level when in March the same year I fell pregnant, I noticed my sugars started to spike in the evenings almost as soon as I found out so at just 6 weeks the consultant I was under decided that insulin was best and I was put on novamix, my sugars again stabilized quite quickly but by 24 weeks I was hypoing a fair bit so my insulin was changed to a basal/bolus type (cant remember the names right now but one pen was navy and orange and the other grey and light purple) they worked a treat and my healthy baby was born 4/11/11 she had no problems at all but I was advised to stop Metformin as I was BF'ing.
Now fast forward a year,
My last blood check was 16/1/12 and it was 5.5 so I was taken off all medication and told I was "cured"
Im confused I have asked for more bloods this year as Im terrified that its just going to hit me and be bad this time.
But, thats my story short lived diabetic and I dont even have a badge to say I ever was.
I would also like to say that I am not naive enough to think that its gone for good I just like to think its under control by diet for now
