Hi
I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic in March of this year. Am now on a small dose of metformin and a controlled diet. I have to say I have not felt as good as this for such a long time. Before I was diagnosed I was contantly tired and felt sick all the time.
Since starting on metformin I have got more energy than I have had for years & life is fun again.
Glad that the forum is here and looking forward to making friends
Gill :D

Hi Gill,

You may have had diabetes for some time before diagnosis, hence why you feel much better now than in a long time. Pleased things are working out and welcome to the forum! :)

Hi Nigel
Thanks for the welcome. I agrree ! I am pretty sure I have had undiagnosed diabetes for a l-o-n-g time. I had NO energy - I felt sick and was up about 10 times a night to drink water! This had been going on for years !
Now I sleep right through and seem to be able to tackle any job - which is just as well as I have recently become a carer for my sister in law who has recently been diagnosed with early Alzheimers.
Looking forward to picking up some useful tipsa and tricks on the forum
Thanks
Gill

Hi Carl
Thanks for the welcome. What is so scary is the way the disease creeps up on you. For several years I felt less and less "well" but this year I knew something was seriously wrong.

I could not believe the instant improvement once I started meds. The new energy and the freedom from nausea - have made life living again and it is so good to know that my disease is treatable - I was convinced I was dying
Thanks all for being there

Hi Gill,

I think I had diabetes for maybe 6 or 7 years when I think back to how poorly i had been for so long. I went to the doctors a few times but it was so hard to describe how i felt - just cr*p really.

With me, for a long time i was feeling terrible but had something to eat and it lifted me for a short while but then down again and this got me into a real mess. I put a lot of weight on as a result and the doctor (bless him) said that i was probably eating and drinking a lot because i was stressed at work, gave me some anti depressants and refered me a psychological nurse to talk about my comfort eating. I now know that the 'depression' was actually when my BG was sky high. I feel quite upset when i look back as i mentioned maybe diabetes to the doctor back then but he said at 35 i was way too young for that and it was not worth testing for.

Its just a really simple test isn't it - less than a minute and i may have been diagnosed years ago and had a better quality of life for the past 5 of them.

I was the same and this year after Xmas I persivered at the doctors and kept going back and back insisting i wasn't well until they had tested me for just about everything and ended up in Hospital full of insulin as my BG was in the high 20's and they thought i was type 1.

Ah well, I suppose that's in the past and i am much better now. I'm glad you are feeling much better too. Its a little bit of a roller coaster i find. some days i am great, others not so great. This forum is brill on the not so good days as there is always somebody who will help. Its also good on the good days and people are so supportive.

Best wishes and looking forward to seeing you on the boards

Carl

Hi Carl
Your last post really rang some bells. Like you I was depressed and like you I ate too much to 'feel better' - also started drinking heavily because it did make me feel better for a short time. I too had several blood tests prior to being diagnosed and the t2 was not picked up.

I went to see my doc in Feb this year because I was convinced I had stomach cancer (several close relatives of mine have died from cancer) and I was having trouble with stomach problems. I had a fasting BS test and was told the doc would let me know the results. Later the same today I had a frantic phonecall from another doctor in the practice - he told me my BS was 45 and ordered me into hospital - where I was immediately put on an insulin drip and my bs was checked every hour through the night.
It may sound a bit fanciful I know, but as soon as I was put on the drip I felt like something warm and comforting was seeping into my system and I felt more relaxed and comfortable than I had in years.

Like you I get good and bad days but I can safely say the good days are far more frequent than the bad days - and even those are nowhere near as bad as the days before I was diagnosed.
Good luck - its nice talking to you
Gill
