Hello everyone, I was diagnosed Type 2 in August this year after being told I was pre-diabetic in October 09. Although I suspect I was actually pre diabetic well before then.
I am currently taking metformin 500mg 3 times a day and so far coping with them ok. I have a real carb addiction but have managed to lose 9lbs since being diagnosed although I am sure the metformin has helped.
My main problem is I keep forgetting about the diabetes, I am vey busy with work and we have a big holiday coming up in a few weeks so when I am not working I am writing packing lists and trying to think about everything that needs to be done before we go. I take the metformin regularly but then tend to eat what I want (or what I have time to grab) and I am meant to be trying hard to reduce my carb intake and find alternatives but not making much progress. Just downloaded a carb app for my iPhone so hoping this will help. I am quite good at resisting sugar, but sometimes even that gets the better of me. I think the main problem is I havent had any diabetes education, however I am due to see the diabetic nurse on 18th October for a chat about "what to expect" souns well ominous.
When I was first diagnosed I bought a meter and test strips and was regularly testing, but even this has tailed off (poor time management and forgetting what time I ate so not knowing how far post meal I am when taking a reading).
Anyway, looking forward to reading loads of sound advice and info on the boards and hopefully contributing a bit every now and again.
