Type 2
I'm type 1 diabetic,i was diagnosed in July 2016 also I got the all clear on cervical cancer July 2016 "very bad year for me ". Since being diagnosed I only eat veg, salad, everything with brown bread with seeds. I'm too frightened to eat chips and all the normal food.. anyone else the same as myself.

Hi @Cazkie and welcome to the forum. When I was first diagnosed I didn't know what I could eat and just ate tinned salmon with mayo sandwiches made with wholemeal bread for the first couple of weeks. Finding this forum gave me more ideas for meals - there is a section on nutrition and recipes. I can eat most things now I have got my blood sugar levels under control but I eat starchy foods like rice, potatoes, bread and pasta in smaller amounts and less often than I used to.
But I am Type 2. You have said you are Type 1 which is different, and as I understand it they control their diabetes with insulin mainly. I expect there will be some Type 1s who will be online in the morning (UK time) who will be able to give you more advice on diet.
I'm sorry to hear you have had a bad year, but it's great that you have beaten the cervical cancer. Diabetes can be controlled too.

Aww ok and thankyou, I have only just downloaded this ap, it looks very helpful.i will be asking for lots advice because I feel I've been left to just deal with it..but thankyou once again.

@Cazkie you are welcome. Have a read round the threads and ask anything you want to. The people on here are friendly and supportive. You aren't alone in this, we are all here to support each other.

I will ask, this diabetes is a learning thing.i was in hospital for 5 days with ketone that's when I was diagnosed with type 1. I've only seen a dietician once.and a diabetic nurse once.so I have so much to learn. So I will be probably asking a million and 1 questions.

Ask away. Most of us got very little helpful advice from HCPs, and have learnt more from this forum.
