Hi Cazzy and welcome. You'll find out all sorts of stuff here - but do remember it's best to check anything out for yourself. It's not gospel, it's advice and experience from individuals! I know some people eat bananas quite happily and i see from your profile you're on oral meds so maybe you can?
If you look around here, you'll find some regularly posted advice for T2s that explains not only about sugars but carbohydrates which also turn to glucose in the blood. But you sound like your hba1c test is okay and that's good for starters. My worry about that is that this overall "score" might hide serious spikes in bg levels - it's that sort of thing you have to judge and work out for yourself by testing. Most of us buy a meter and test strips and see what individual foods (like bananas!) do for us at one hour and two hours after eating them. As a bonus, sometimes being able to take control of things helps lift the depression a little bit. It's worth a try anyway.
So have a good look round and come back with any questions. Someone will always answer - even though it's bank hol, I've popped in as I was writing my novel in bed on my computer!!! Others will pop in too despite holidays.
