Hello all, I’m Maxine and live in Kent. I’m 61 years old, married with 2 children and I work part time in retail and have just been diagnosed with steroid induced diabetes. I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis approx 6 months ago and put onto Prednisolone. Up until starting the steroids I had never had a problem with my blood sugars. My blood test last week showed my HbA1c is 50. Got another blood test at the end of this month and GP will decide what medication I’ll be put on. I have a lot to learn about diabetes and I’m sure this site will be invaluable to me.

Hi @Maxine1961 , welcome to the forum.

We have a couple of members who are on long time steroid use, first to come to mind is @JohnEGreen . He may be able to share some particular perks of steroid induced diabetes that may be different from other types of diabetes.

With your hba1c at 50, you'reonly just over the diabetic threshold.
So it may be that some dietary adjustments are enough to lower your levels to healthy figures again.

I think because I’ll be on steroids long term at least a couple of years GP is worried my levels will carry on rising.
