Hi everyone,

I have been lurking for a while and absorbing all of your wisdom, so thank you!

I am pre diabetic/impaired fasting glucose - I have a 3 month old baby and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my pregnancy and it hasn't gone away (well, my levels are better but not back to non diabetic levels).

Just wanted to say hi, and I have a couple of questions which I will ask in the other section.

Hello mrsknitty
Welcome. I am a type1 and have been for 36yrs and i am 42yrs old. I have three children, stepson of 26yrs, and a son 20yrs old and a daughter 18yrs. My pregnancies weren't easy, but wouldn't of changed it for the world.
Does diabetes run in your family as i am the only one in the family, and that was mumps that started it off.
We are here to advice and help, but remember we are all different in the way our diabetes are dealt with. We can only go by our own experiences.
Take care
Tracey

Hi Tracey and thanks for the reply :) No it doesnt really run in my family ... although apparently mu uncle has recently also been diagnosed with slightly raised blood sugars but i dont know the details. Neither of my parents have it tho and so I am a bit shocked to be honest. I am overweight but I suppose I always felt a bit like it wouldnt happen to me ...

Hi Tracy, I too am pre diabetic, though I was diagnosed as diabetic, (incorrectly), three years ago. Looking back I think I may have been in this state for years, as I remember being told my blood sugar levels were "a bit on the high side" several years before that. I too have no family history of diabetes, and was a bit weighty. Over the course of the past couple of years I have lost a couple of stones, following the advise, seen on this site, to lower my carb intake, and treat myself as diabetic, and now find though I am still at pre diabetes levels, I have not got any worse. Stress seems to be the trigger with me, as I have just come back from my hols, where I cheated big time and woke up this morning with blood sugar level of 5.3, so don't get upset, it may never happen, and if it does, there is a life beyond diagnoses.

Hi Jumbleannie1VDJQ

Thanks for the welcome! It is nice to hear from another pre diabetic and encouraging to read that your levels have not got any worse now that you take steps to manage it. Lovely to hear from you :)
