Hello!

Hi All, I am new to this forum stuff. I am 50 and have had Type 1 Diabetes for about 12 years. I live in the Midlands, right in the midlands of England. What has prompted me to join this forum is a letter from my doctor and enforced change of Blood Glucose monitoring meter. It's had such a negative effect on me and made me feel quite powerless and low - I am hoping to get some advice, support or just shoulder to cry on (!). Will see if I can sort out a new thread to discuss this in the correct area (ie not 'Greetings and Intros').
I am married and have one lovely dog ( a rescue lurcher), who keeps me active with two walks a day. I am currently trying to set up a new 'freelance proofreading' business so am looking forward to getting that going. I like walking, cycling, cinema, reading etc. Hoping to go skiing in Feb/Mar (if we can find a good deal). Thats about it for now. Hoping to get in touch with people who may have similar issues, worries etc. The doctors are very little support here really because none of them are specialists - I am sure many of you will know what I mean when I say this!

Hello and welcome, I understand that this is bound to feel like a bit of a set back at the moment but try look at your new monitor as a step forward perhaps it will make monitoring easier once you get used to it. What type of meter do you have? I only ask as some other members may have recently made the change to the same meter and could possibly offer some advice and support in that area.

My GP surgery is rubbish when it comes to diabetes which is why I much prefer going to the diabetes clinic to see specially trained diabetes nurses and consultants (if the need should arise to see one).

Rest assured you are never alone in your fears or worries, someone here will always be able to offer support or advice having been through similar experiences themselves.

Hi,
I was using Bayer Contour (perfectly happy with it, easy to use, small blood drop required). Have tried first option - TrueYou mini - awful, keeps erroring due to more blood required, fingers sore already. Now trying the second one - Pura X - better but still needs more blood that Contour. Also I have actually used all three at the same time and have quite different readings, so am losing my faith in them already. Scary to think that it might show 3.9 when I am actually 1.9. Very frustrated and more anxious and upset than in all the 13 years since I was diagnosed. I will persevere, no other choice I suppose :-( Thank for your comments tho, EJ
