I would like to introduce myself, I am 53 years old and was diagnosed with impaired fasting glycaemia 3 years ago although I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes with all 3 pregnancies which resulted in some fairly hefty babies - 2 boys each weighing 10lb 10oz and a dainty little girl weighing in at 9lb 12oz. Anyway, I digress.....the diagnosis of impaired fasting glycaemia wasn't a total surprise but apart from taking more exercise and regulating my diet and annual blood tests there wasn't a lot more information I was given.

I have recently been having more and more of what I call 'the wibbles' - I feel shaky (my hands can be seen shaking) and it comes on really suddenly and if I don't have something sweet to eat or drink straight away then it gets worse. I have never passed out with this but I do feel somewhat light headed after the initial feeling has passed and usually end up with a headache and feeling grumpy (my husband can confirm this!) I also feel sleepy too. My blood level is usually around 7-7.8 most mornings (self tested) so maybe it is time to go back to the Doctor for more accurate tests although my annual check isn't due until November/December.

I would be very interested to know if anyone has experienced anything like this or has any advice for me please?

I have experienced those symptoms but only at low sugar readings such as 3.* or so. If you mean you get the wibbles when you are 7-7.8 then I have no idea what is causing it because those readings are high for a fasting reading.

Hello Squire, thank you for your posting. Sorry if I confused you, what I should have said that my typical blood readings are between 7-7.8 on rising but when I have one of these 'wibbles' it reads around just under 5 or sometimes nearer 4 but not as low as your 3.

Hi, Welcome :)

are the wibbles when you haven't eat for a long while? if so you could try to not let this happen and snack between meals, something healthy of course

i get the wibbles when i think about having a 10lb baby, but then i am a bloke

Hi Andy! I would say they mostly happen mid-morning and sometimes when I've not eaten anything but not always (never been a big fan of breakfast!) although I would have had at least one mug of coffee although sometimes they can be early evening when I've eaten properly during the day. Common sense tells me that it is low blood sugar due to lack of food but there are times when it just seems to appear out of nowhere when I have eaten properly during the day.
