Hi, i was recently diagnosed as type 2. I must admit it was a bit of a shock, though I don't know why, I'm overweight and although I try and eat sensibly and healthly my biggest downfall is that I can't exercise. I have serious problems with my spine, I've already had one major operation, 10 years ago, and now I'm probably going to have another one. Until they've solved my problems i can only walk very short distances and going to a gym is certainly out of the question. How do other people cope? I'm on metformin and trying to lose weight at the moment.

Hi Pat

Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of diabetes. Many of us have reduced our weight by low carbing. We have dropped the spuds, bread and pasta etc. and upped our diet with vegetables and fresh meat and fish. Check out the success postings in the low carb forum and ask lots of questions. This forum is a life saver.

Good luck Fenster

Hi pattid and welcome to the forum.
Do you have a council run sports centre or something similar? Many of these run exercise classes for the disabled, might be well worth doing some local research.
If you have a good read around the forum you will see that there are several diet strategies that people use to gain control of their diabetes. Anything that you are not sure about then please ask. Any questions you have someone will try to answer for you.

Take care,
Catherine.
