I do not have diabetes
Hi, I'm new and I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes yet but I have Hashimotos, my mum is diabetic and I have symptoms that suggest diabetes and I'd just like some guidance if that's ok with symptoms and testing.

I had a test for glucose before but my doctor didn't tell me this test was being done and so I didn't fast for it. This was over 2 years ago.

GLUCOSE - 4.9 (<10.1)

I had something called the HbA1c test done. This was done 3 years ago.

HBA1C - 33 (20-42)

Symptoms - weight loss, thirsty, going to the toilet a lot (but I have put that down to drinking more water), tired and craving for sugar and salt. I feel better after eating glucose lozenges so I must have low blood sugar so any advice on the above would be great.

Many thanks. :)

Some of those symptoms are associated with diabetes but feeling better after eating a glucose lozenge doesn't fit. The 4.9 and 33 are non-diabetic numbers.

I would get yourself checked out by a doctor to see what's up.

Hello and welcome

Those tests were a long time ago and things can change quickly. None of us here can diagnose you or tell you if you have low or high blood sugars. You need to go to your doctor for some more tests. I hope you get sorted,

Hi what tests are recommended?

hi, my doctors aren't really listening to my symptoms. They have said I'm young and slim so being diabetic despite a strong family history means testing for diabetes is not necessary.

Maybe you should consider changing your doctor! Plenty of young slim people are diabetic. You don't have to be fat to be a Type 2. Ask for a fasting glucose test and an HbA1c. There are other tests, such as an oral glucose test. Of course, your symptoms could be something else entirely, but this can only be discovered with blood tests. Things such as a vitamin deficiency or a misbehaving thyroid. Go see a doctor, we really can't help.

You have not wasted our time at all , but you really need to check things out medically , then please share with us how you get on ...
You need tests done to determine how you are now ...an hba1c test 3 years ago is really out of date ....
Hope you get things sorted take care ... best wishes ...Kat

Thanks for your help. Sorry if I've wasted your time.
No waste of time here ever...everyone here to help...can't argue with advice of colleagues...get your doctor to test ASAP it will be a relief....your symptoms sound so much like mine did on diagnosis so get it confirmed either way.

Thanks for your help. Sorry if I've wasted your time.
All your questions are absolutely legit and I'm thin and T2 so I will come and have a word with your doctors if you like. Stick around.
