Good morning to you all here at diabetes uk...I am a new member here, but not new to diabetes, unfortunately it's a very prevalent in my father's side and me now being the 4 generation, all my uncles, my cousins, and now second cousin's have diabetes and its coming out in my cousin's children now, however I am the first female in this line of males, guess I drew the short straw..I am 44 soon to be 45 and insulin dependant, after a very nasty bout of pneumonia approx 8 years ago it seems my pancreas didn't want to recover and shut itself down, it was at this time the consultant's discovered that I also had a number of complex congenital heart defects, from a child I have always known I had a heart mumur, but back as a child my parents were told I would be ok with antibiotic cover with any type of infection, I would always be a bluish colour, and not to worry I would be ok although I wouldn't make a swimmer or tennis player and stop being neurotic parents let her live her life, which I did until this bout of pneumonia, it floored me and then told the complexity of my heart and lungs defects on top on being insulin dependant within a few hours of being admitted to hospital. It's been a very long road and a up hill battle over the last 8 years with one thing and another, although I am grateful to be here and battling though things..my sugars of late have been out of control running in the high 20s daily...Tuesday of this week I had a total change of insulins in the hope this will work and it was my endocrine doctor that suggested diabetics uk for help and support, especially he feels for autonomic neuropathy I have, so here I am, I don't particularly like talking about myself and feel more comfortable helping others where I can, but I don't know anybody that has this type of neuropathy so any advice will be grateful..it will be my pleasure in due course to get to know you all.
