Type 2 Help! how do I maintain my weight on a low carb diet ?

Hello, this post is actually about how to eat on a low carb diet without losing weight ?I have had 'Type 2' since 1991. I take Diamicron 20mg twice a day. I have always been slim but in March 2017 It was suggested that if I did a Diabetes Manaagement course, just starting, it would help me gain better control of my Diabetes. I was puzzled because I had always been told I had under the limit HBA1C's for some years. I started the course and gradually noticed I was losing weight which I had not expected or wanted. The diet we were 'suggested' to follow in this was , I now realise ,classed as a Low Carb Diet. I had no idea at the time and thought I was seriously ill and the result has left me a nervous insomniac wreck !!! Has anyone had this experience, if so what did they do ? I am 69, still working and finding it hard to maintain all aspects of my life. I have a wheat intolerance too . Any help would be wonderful,I will probably post on a new thread here too X

The important thing with a Low Carb diet is to remember that it goes hand in hand with High Fat (or Healthy Fat, if you prefer). That's why it is often called LCHF. The aim of LCHF is not just to cut right down on carbs and therefore starve yourself to slimness and ill health, but to re-train your body to make use of lovely healthy fats, which are bursting with all sorts of essential nutrients (unlike carbs).
Add eggs, cream, cheese, oily fish, bacon, fatty meats, nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil etc to your diet and you will feel great and should keep the weight on.
Look at the Diet Doctor site for lots of ideas and encouragement concerning Low Carb.

Try roasted nuts and seeds. I now make my own, but Marks and Spencers do a relatively low carb pack. Nuts and seeds really pack in the calories, especially macadamia, brazils and pine nuts. The mix I make contains about 185 K calories /ounce and I have to ration myself very carefully!

In order to maintain weight, or gain weight, on a low carb diet there are only 2 things you can do. You have to replace the energy (calories) lost from cutting the carbs with either fats or protein or both. I had to do this a good while ago now after I lost all my excess weight on low carb. It took a while and a lot of fine tuning, but in my case, by adding extra eggs, cheese, butter, cream, and being more generous with the mayonnaise, I found the right balance and have maintained this weight for 3 and a half years.

A low carb diet isn't necessarily a weight loss diet - it can also be used very successfully without weight loss to manageyour glucose levels.

Like @Bluetit1802 , I've kept my weight stable - give or take a kilo or two either way - for four years now on my LCHF diet.

I only started to seriously lose weight when I went really low carb (20-25g carbs a day) but wasn't adding any extra fat/protein to make up my fuel deficit. I currently eat under 50g carbs and have upped my fat/protein intake slighty to balance this out. I've always eaten full fat, so it was fairly simple for me to make smallish adjustments to the fatty part of my diet, but I believe stabilizing my weight was actually mainly due to me watching and managing glucose levels rather than watching my scales and weight! But whatever, the important part is replacing the reduced carbs with more fat until you find your right balance.
