@sarahm723 For pretty much the entire 20 years since my type 1 diagnosis, I have followed the NHS guidelines on diet - low fat, lots of fruit & vegetables and around 50% of calories to come from carbohydrate, while failing to lose the weight I was told I must. And for those 20 years I have got fatter and fatter, needing larger and larger doses of insulin. Huge swings in my blood sugars, feeling constantly hungry, feeling terrible. I felt like I was feeding my insulin the whole time, always one step behind. I’d eat a healthy meal based on the EatWell plate and be starving within an hour - this food just wasn’t satisfying me. I had to try something new.
