It's not always as simple as someone just telling you how to count carbs. You need to know what ratio you have of insulin to carbohydrate, ie how much insulin to take for how many carbs. When I started counting carbs I was on 2units of humalog for every 10g of carbohydrate but since losing weight and starting on victoza medication this has reduced to 2units for every 15g of CHO and then further still to 1 unit for every 10g of CHO. So you need to know that as a starting point.

Have you spoken to your diabetic specialist or nurse about this? There may be a DAFNE course (or something similar) in your area that you can go on that will teach you all about it. I personally didn't go on a course, my consultant just ran through the basics with me and I picked it up really quickly.

unfortunately dear over here there is no one to really advise u just imagine even my doctor never talk about carbs with me? or why i am doing novorapid and i have seen among the best in here! so, better face my prob by myself till while surfing i got this site. now i am trying by trial n error but the good news is that my bs is reducing day by day by 4 units in the morining. i was on 22.1 bs in the morning today it was 11.4 still i am happy it is reducing gradually  but there is no Dafne here; i am in my own and this is y i am on this site every morning first thing. any suggestion is most welcomed. i read the ratio is 1: 15 insulin and carbs ratio. so i am trying to read packets and adjust the dose. i even ask help with a dietician but with no sucess!! i wonder where she got qualiified!
