Type 1
Such a nightmare, I ran out the house in a rush this afternoon and have taken a pen with a grand total of 1 unit left in the cartridge. I have 5 hours till the earliest time I can feasibly go home and my blood sugar is rising slowly. I have my basal (levemir) with me, trying to find a number so I can chat to a diabetes nurse but my hospitals is closed on a Sunday and I can't get an out of hours for my diabetes team or my gps.

Any suggestions? Am just chugging water at this point.

Hi,

Is there no one you could ring to pick up a full cartridge or pen from your house & courier it to you?

Am in Glasgow for work temporarily and know no one apart from those who work in the office, all of whom are enjoying their weekends now, and I don't know them well enough to ask for a favour like that!

Why can you not leave work for another 5hrs @isjoberb. Surely it counts as a medical emergency?

I'm currently supervising a team of 15 and it would take over 2 hours for someone to replace me - it's more an inconvenience than an emergency at this stage.

OK? So what is your current situation.? Are you at work? Is your temporary accommodation a hotel?
I'm thinking if this is the case? Try a member of staff at a hotel (they can gain access to rooms.) & give em a massive tip!

Edit: just seen your work dilema..

Staying in serviced apartments half an hour away from the university. Annoyingly I have a 15 min break but nowhere near long enough to go home and back again!

What about giving your key to a trusted member of your team & letting em have an hour out? ;)

Called my boss and got permission to use one of the team for this purpose!

Quality!

Just to make sure they know what the object of their "quest" is.
May I suggest a picture of your medication on their phone.. You don't want em coming back with more basal..! :banghead:;)

I sent her off with my insulin passport, thank god I have yet to clear my purse from holiday stuff! all in all a success, she was very pleased to have been chosen :D

Lol, they always are... It's like some sort of "mother Teresa" syndrome...

Inapropriate I know. But don't forget the gratitude with the gift of a box of chocolates...
