Can I be a pain and ask people what they think of these figures. I'm newly diagnosed and still trying to make sense of it all. I would be grateful if I could have some opinions on the following BG readings for yesterday.

6.30am BG – 6.1

7.15am Breakfast – 3 egg omelette, sprinkling of grated cheese, two slices of ham

10.30am BG 4.9

10.35am Snack – Banana, eaten as an experiment to see what effect it would have

1.30pm BG – 4.8 does this mean the banana didn't affect my BG?

1.45pm Lunch- Fresh anchovies in sunflower oil and vinegar, large handful of spinach, large fresh tomato, 4 inch piece cucumber, chunk of brie

4.35pm BG – 6.9 Why would a low carb lunch raise my BG so much?

6.45pm BG – 5.8

7.15pm Dinner - Tandoori mixed grill, paneer sag (spinach&cheese), brinjal baji (okra in spicey sauce) taste of chicken passander (creamy coconut and cashew sauce) lots of white wine, probably over a bottle!

9.20pm – BG 6.4

11.20pm - egg omelette, sprinkling of grated cheese, two slices of ham late nigh drunken snack!

12.00am BG – 6.2

This morning

7.45am BG – 5.8

I'm interested to know if this means I can eat bananas and why my lunch apparently sent my BG up when it was very low carb? Maybe the tomato?

Thanks for your time.

Lo,

Try testing 1 hr and 2 hr after eating a banana. You tested after 3 hrs. This will give you a better idea of how it affects your bg. Tomatoes can be high in carbs but it's a very individual thing. I have to eat toms in moderation but you may be lucky and get away with it.

Thanks, I got distracted and ended up going out for a coffee with a mate. Are those BG level decent though, should I be trying to go lower?

Hi Doc,

Those figures look good, although I think you maybe got away with the dinner menu because of the amount of wine you drank (it lowers BG levels). Not too much of a hardship when you can dine sumptuously and keep the levels down with wine eh!!

Hi Doc,good levels.
Looking at that I would say that the breakfast level had some 'dawn effect 'to it,this then improved after breakfast ,after you had eaten as your body felt fed and did not need to 'dump' any more glucose.

Not sure on the lunch-time reading but it is well within limits anyway.
Notice that because you ate an omelette before bed it warded of the 'dawn effect' next morning!
I would be quite happy with those numbers, well done.
Keeping your numbers down is important but do not get too worried if they are not very low!!Anything under 7 is fine, try and relax and just work on finding food that you enjoy and that works for you.

That banana hung about for a while.
Do you take medication, if so what, when and how much?

On 1 Metformin 500 per day, those are great numbers.

Agreed, I'd be happy with numbers like that

BUT

I'd be testing around my postprandial peaks, which for me are around 1 hour

when you still have relatively good pancreatic function you can go up a lot and still knock the spikes back down again, however if you continue to do this you will eventually burn out your pancreas quicker than by avoiding them
