A week and a half ago I was being careful doing my feet but unfortunately managed to kick the stool I was using and tore off half my big toe nail OUCHY !
Cleaned and covered it but two days later so painful I went to the Minor Injury Unit at the hospital to get it looked at. It was cleaned and dressed for me and I was told to keep an eye on it, which I did.
Still being VERY painful and reddening a lot more, I went back and saw the same nurse who dealt with it four days earlier. She said it was Granulating & infected so put me on anti-biotics & gently rubbed away some of the rapidly growing new cells. Believe you me this was PAINFUL. She the applied Siver Nitrate and dressed it again. Tomorrow I go to the nurse at the doctors surgery for a repeat proceedure.
The hospital has said that if my toe hasn't improved by next week I will have to have a minor operation on it :(
Can anybody give any advice to me about this as I had never heard of it before.
Thank you in advance -Kathy

sounds nasty and really sore.......anything with hurty toenails makes mine curl!!!!!. sounds like they may want to give it a good clean up and trim under s locsl anesthetic......if it were squeamish me i would need a genersl at the very very least....quincing at the thought
sorry .....i have a thing about nosenails..sometimes things heal too quickly and leave a gap underneath ...this is way they may want to do something....but og course the dr will explain it to you xx

Kathy, you poor thing, that is very painful indeed, some years ago now I had to have a wound on my foot cleaned out, but it healed up nicely after that so it was worth it. The most important thing that you can do is that you keep your bg tightly controlled, as near to non diabetic levels as you can manage, this will really give you the best chance of healing faster.
The good thing is that you have sensation in your toe, so your circulation should be fine, try not to walk around too much, give the foot a good rest.
Good luck with it all x
