Help needed with Toujeo insulin

Ok, so been on Toujeo insulin for 2 days now. I know this is not long but everything is going crazy!
Low carber so usually had 14 units of Lantus split dose, 10 am and 4 evening.
DSN said to start at 10 units of Toujeo. So I have.
Normally having about 30g of carbs a day and bolusing about 4/5 units of Novorapid.
Today I have injected 15 units of novorapid and had about 20 carbs so far!!!!!!
Blood sugars have been as high as 21! They normally run at about 6.5
Finally now coming down slowly.
Feel like doubling the Toujeo tomorrow morning.
What do you think?
Nothing different about today. Not ill.

I would strongly advise that you don't double the dose @smag3, I've not used this insulin but I would increase the dose in small increments just the same as you would on lantus.

Ring your DSN in the morning who will advise further, hope you get it sorted.
 
I have had some very good advice on here about my recent change of long acting insulin, the first day went surprising well and I was expecting the worse and went on the side of caution. I know it is not the same insulin but I was also on a split dose going to one dose, my nurse and others have suggested you don't adjust for at least 3 days and then only by a couple of units at a time. Now I will be honest I am an impatient person and that is incredibly hard for me if you see a high reading! I have been doing this for about a week now and can see why...immediately I thought this is not enough, I struggled with highs during the day, a week in...I actually think if anything it could do with being lowered or certainly needs some tweeking! To me there does certainly seem to be a settling down period. Speak to your nurse as I think you may regret doubling your dose, but I can completely get where you are coming from as the 'high' makes you want to react, so frustrating!!!!!:confused: hang on in there it's early days! You must get help if you need it, that's what our DSN's are paid for!
 
Thanks so much guys. I will ring DSN in morning. I am impatient and highs make me panic as much as lows. Will increase by 2 units in morning as think this won't hurt.
Will post what happens.
 
I've just read your 'blurb' and didn't want to seem condescending with my last post as you have been doing this a long time, as have I, but any new insulin is a challenge! All I will say is I am always amazed at how much basel we need just to
exist! It is worth trying and persevering, I'm sure you are doing the right thing with 'upping' your novorapid as I have been doing loads this week ( I am fully prepared for the drop again) I would be interested to hear how you get on in the long term with this new insulin, as I am on Humalin S trying to mix with Lantus as a single dose and recently I have seen others on here on Toujeo so it might be worth a hunt around the forum. Hey there. I changed to toujeo last year and my sugars went daft! I went on to the website and it said it takes toujeo up to 5 days to fully get into your system and to not change anything until the 5 days have passed. After my 5 days it def did settle but its a hard week of exhaustion! Your DSN will obviously know wat to do but just passing on my experience x

Thanks that is reassuring. Am going to up it 2 units this morning and wait and see. I hate up and down bloods as they make me feel rubbish. Onwards and upwards!

Much better, thank you. I upped my Toujeo by 2 units and kept to very super low carb and still had a few highs but this time bolused quick and all seems much calmer. Waking bs of 5.3 but did have to bolus 2 units in the night.
Will leave it as is for now.
