Help Needles!

I was using much too long a needle on my pens....8mm, so was going into my muscles from time to time with much quicker uptake of insulin action to food digestion. And ensuing Hypo's ..quickly
I was changed onto the 4mm , the shortest baby ones they do I think, with much improvement, as I have very thin skin and little fat.
I have just injected now into my upper inner arm as this is the best place for me for quicker absorption and I know I wont go into a muscle if I relax my arm...I have had a load of blood come back out  Does this mean I may be hitting a vein?????
I have got a little blue hard lump there now ,the size of a small grape. but it has stopped bleeding. I used a fresh needle. It is just sometimes I do tend to bleed a fair bit after some injections.

Does this mean anything, or happen to anyone else? Should I go for a longer needle again :?

Thanks for any help :)

Ahhh, thanks Hun ,those blood vessel's don't half make a mess of my arms :( I know it's not a vein this time, I did hit one a month or so back and mainlined two units  Went from 13.9 down to 1.2 then low on my machine in the space it took me to get down the stairs....VERY scary Hypo that one was....first and last time hopefully, and that was with the long needles so these short ones should sort it..its just I bleed more with them :(

Yikes, that does sound VERY scary!!

I tried jabbing in my arms and it hurts like hell as im a weight lifter and have built up some arms over time, haha. I went back to jabbing in the stomache/thighs and ouchy it does hurt when you hit a nerve ending in your belly and yes something I bleed quite a bit when injecting in to my stomache.

Be carefull F! Inner arm, inner thighs are dangerous places to inject..it has got veins in there and if insulin goes straight into vein you will simply collapse. As you almost experienced yourself :D Carefull..
Why would you need such quick absorbsion?

Been to hospital today and they said they don't advise to jab in the arm any more as people jab in to the inner arm when they are actually meant to do it into the back of there arm.

Hey
I use inner arm when I need it to work quick during my training....and it has the least muscle for me there...Legs too much muscle and working, so too quick...Butt too slow  I use Butt rest of time. Stomach I used to hit muscle..My DSN is fine with it.
Well in 20 years I've only hit a vein once and that was because I had the 8mm needles...now I have 4mm,so cant see me hitting a vein at all now...but blood vessels can really kick out some blood

What size needles do you use Ausra?

I used to use my arms for Novo, that was where they showed me how to inject in hospital. It was always in the back of the arm (alternating arms) and using shorter needles 6mm to start with, they got shorter. I never considered using the inner arm, perhaps just as well!
I used my abdomen for lantus, using 8mm needles.
Now on the pump, I keep trying to find new spots to avoid overusing any one place. My doctor did suggest using my arms again.

Enquire about 4mm needles. Apparently new research shows that noone needs to use any longer than 4mm as everyone's epidermis is the same thickness. (2mm).

Hey Beav :D
That's what I've got now, much better, though I do find I get more heamatomas with these, unless it is the Novo that does it compared to the Apidra :eh: My chemist only stocks down to 5 mml and said most people use 6 mml. If I keep bruising as much I may give the 5 or 6 a go.
Which do you use? I know your into the Body building, do you hit muscle a lot? and do you find you have sudden lows if you do?
