Genuine question what do you do if you've forgotten if you have taken night time insulin. My memory has been all over the place at the moment and I don't have a clue if I be taken it or not

Hi Clairebear - I don't use insulin, but I'll tag my colleagues, @Diakat and @Jaylee . Hopefully they'll have some ideas.

Making the assumption that you are not using a pen that logs the last injection. Don't do anything. The last thing you want is a double dose. Then if you usually split the dose take it as usual tomorrow. If you only inject basal at night keep a close eye on numbers tomorrow, if you seem higher than usual perhaps give half a basal dose in the morning.

Hello,

Did you mean last night, or this evening's dose?
I've had the odd memory lapse with basal myself.. It happens in mundane routine.

Thanks. Just needed to clarify. Solid advice from my team mate @Diakat above.

Keep a close eye on your BGs tomorrow. If you can set an alarm & wake a little early? (i know, a pain..) Then do so..

Here's hoping you actually remembered!
 
Waking early is not a problem having a lot of trouble sleeping atm as well as having memory problems. Thanks for advice x

I had the same problem a number of time, it just becomes so auto-pilot that you can't remember whether you've taken it or not, if I ever wasn't sure then I just didn't take it and kept and eye on things for the next day - what I did was got myself some Timesulin caps for my pens (about 20 quid each), they show how long ago it was you last used it (well ok, it shows how long ago since the last time you had the cap off for more than 8 seconds - so you can quickly check it without resetting the timer).

Great advice in answers above. Just a thought: poor sleep and memory troubles might indicate perhaps hypos occurring at night or may be stress for some reason.? If you can manage some BSL readings during the night, or use of a device like a Libre and discuss these BSLs and your troubles with sleep and memory with your DSN or doctor.
I can recall someone accidentally injecting his night-time insulin twice and having to 'punish' himself with 'doses' of ice-cream over 12 hours !
We have all had memory lapses of sorts, every juggler will have a lapse in routine. We live and learn.
