Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum. I've recently been switched from exenitide to humulin I. I feel so ill my blood sugars are in the 20's I'm constantly thirsty and needing the toilet and I have the worst thrush I've ever had in my life (sorry) my starting dose was 10 and I'm now upto 14. What I'd like to ask is could I put my insulin up to 18 tonight or is that too much of a jump? I'm going to speak to my diabetic nurse in the morning but just want to know what you thought?

Thank you

Well, unfortunately insulin doses are worked out by trial and error - the starting dose of 10 is just a guess, possibly based on your weight. As such, it's not really surprising that the initial guess works less well than your previous, carefully adjusted regime.

Increasing insulin by 4u at a time is quite a jump, but given your very high BG I think it's justifiable here. Make extra sure to check your BG though.

Thank you. I don't think it will go low as the last 3 mornings its been just over 20-22. Just a little worried with it being a night time insulin I won't know if it goes low while I'm asleep. I just want to get to the right dose. It's awful feeling like this.
Thank you again for your reply and help.
