help...... unplanned pregnancy

Sorry I know this is an old post but just wondered how the babies were delivered? Is it right they are all to be C-sections??

Until I was pregnant with my 1st I always expected to have to have a c-section but I was due to be induced at 38weeks (labour started naturally but ended c-section - NOT diabetes related) and 2nd I was offered to be induced and not c-section. I think it depends on location but as far as I'm aware most places induce diabetic women.
 
Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy!

I was diagnosed a T1 diabetic during my pregnancy (at 28 weeks). I was 32! It was initially thought it was gestational, but it turned out not to be. My brother was diagnosed a T1 6 months after me and the Docs now think its a genetic thing in our family.

Anyways, I had a few complications during my pregnancy and I was induced at 37 weeks which resulted in a c-section. My son was 9lbs 10oz!

The care I received when i was pregnant was second to none. I had a dedicated diabetic team and the nurses and consultants were amazing. You should contact your diabetic clinic as soon as possible so that they can explain everything to you, but as others have said you will be classed as high risk and will have more scans and appointments than a 'normal' pregnancy. Please don't be frightened by this, I found it very reassuring that we were being monitored as closely as possible and the midwives and diabetic nurses gave me all the information i needed.

Diabetes doesn't always mean section, i've had 2 healthy pregnancies with type 1 and i didn't need a c-section, they usually offer induction around 38 weeks though. You will probably get extra scans (28 weeks, 32 weeks, 36 weeks) to monitor baby's growth and fluid. x

Absolutely! Plenty of diabetic women have natural births but the majority of diabetic births are induced and because of this unfortunately there is a high rate of c-section. Its really more to do with intervention than Diabetes.

I am currently pregnant again and my obstetrician is very happy for me to VBAC with this baby, but if baby doesn't come before 38 weeks i have asked for a planned section. My experience of induction last time was awful and I really don't want to have to go through all that again just for it to end in a section anyway.
