Been Diabetic for over 4 years. Just take metefomin. What worries me now ...That the past 3 months i have been losing a lot of weight ..... Well 3st. I am losing a stone a month. should i be worried???
If your aren't trying to lose that amount of weight I would go and see your doctor. Do you test your blood glucose levels? If so are they in the normal ranges?
Have you had any tests on your thyroid? This is the gland that regulates metabolism and your weight loss may be linked to that.
Weight loss and increases in sugar levels are also usual symptoms of t1 diabetes. I do not know if a t2 diabetic can go on to develop t1. My guess is that it would be possible. Not as a progression as such from t2 to t1 but as two separate conditions, t2 involving not being able to respond to insulin properly and t1 being not producing sufficient insulin as a result of an autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells.
I am not suggesting that you are developing t1, only that you would do well to carry out the tests.
Hope that you soon know what's wrong do that you can begin to receive proper treatment.
Hi Heulwen, it is good that your doctor is referring you to the Endocrinology Dept, after all Diabetes can cause problems with your endocrine system i.e thyroid. Please let us know how you get on.

I tend to agree with Bluetit180, and the other members, Heulwen. Make another appointment and visit your doctor.
Weight loss in such a short period really does need investigating.
Sounds daft, try not to become too uptight about it, but go see your doctor.
